Caring for Your Rubies
Be very gentle with your rubies, if you handle them roughly, they can chip and fracture. Remove your ruby rings if you are doing heavy and/or dirty work with your hands, this helps to prevent your rubies from coming into contact with abrasive chemicals, dirt and chippings.
Before you wash your rubies, scrub them gently with a soft toothbrush. You can efficiently clean rubies by gently washing them with a weak solution of ammonia and water, or mild dish soap, followed up with a rinse under lukewarm water, and drying with a clean, soft cloth. If the ruby has oil, soap, dirt or anything you’re having difficulty removing, you can soak the ruby in water or an ammonia solution.
When storing rubies, be sure to wrap them in a lint-free cloth first as they can scratch other jewelry.
